Salary is discussed usually at a later stage in the job-hunting process. If job seekers take special care to negotiate with potential employers on salary, it may increase the chance of being employed.
Research
Before you attend job interviews, it is advised to spend some time to find out the market rate so that you know what to expect if you have to discuss the pay in the interview. Discuss with your recruitment consultant as they are the experts who have up-to-date salary information for various industries.
Be Passive
During the interview, do not initiate to talk about the salary unless the potential employer raises this issue. When you are invited to ask questions towards the end of the interview, focus on the job and career prospects. If you mention about the pay too early, it will give an impression to the employer that you care only about monetary rewards.
Flexibility
If you are asked how much you expect to get each month, you can give a range instead of a specific amount to show that you are flexible and are willing to negotiate on the pay issue. The corporation may not have the budget to provide the salary you want. So, if you insist on a specific amount, you are simply asking the employer not to consider your application. If you show your flexibility, the potential employer may consider providing other benefits to you to compensate for the amount they cannot offer. This increases your chance of being employed.
