Before you start job-hunting, take some time to think about the career path ahead in order that you will not waste time getting into an industry in which you are not suitable to work. Ask yourself the following questions to know more about yourself:
What did I study at school / university?
This somehow shows your interests. And find out the subject you excel. That may be the area you are strong at.
Have I worked as an intern or what have I done during summer vacation?
If you have summer job experience, did you enjoy the job? What did you do in this job? What did you like and dislike? This can help you find out your career interests.
What kind of person am I?
Think about your personality. Are you a leader? Are you comfortable working with lots of people? Do you enjoy communicating with others? Some jobs have specific requirements on certain character traits. So, if you know what kind of person you are, you can minimize the chance of taking up a job not suitable for you. If you have difficulty finding out, you may also ask your friends and take personality tests.
What is your life goal?
What do you want to do for a long term in the future? What concerns you most in life? This question may let you think about things that interest you in your life. Career is not of short-term and you will be spending a lot of time in your job every day, every week, every month and every year. So, if you can work on something interesting to you, your life will be more fruitful.
